There is little doubt that bridal portraits are one of the most important aspects of any wedding. This is why I like to spend the time several weeks before the wedding day to make sure we’re able to create a set of elegant portraits in a beautiful setting, on a day when the weather and light are both perfect.
Having your bridal portraits created on the wedding day itself is less than ideal – we have no guarantee that the weather will be suitable, the wedding location may not be the prettiest setting and the added pressures of the wedding day don’t allow you to relax as easily.
A separate bridal portrait session is also a great opportunity to practice putting on the gown & veil and it can help to highlight any areas that might need some adjustment prior to the wedding day.

One of the things I love most about wedding photography is the opportunity to surprise the bride’s father (or whoever is giving her away) on the wedding day with a bridal portrait personally dedicated to him by the bride.
The one pictured here is an unusual one, since it is entirely in Japanese and is actually dedicated to both the mother and father of the bride. Mieko’s parents flew in from Tokyo to be present at the wedding and it was wonderful to see them all together on the wedding day.

On April 22nd, I traveled down to Tupelo, MS, to meet Mieko & Thom for their bridal portrait session. We were blessed with a beautiful day and found some lovely locations in and around the town. Since Mieko & Thom decided to see each other before the wedding, this was also a great opportunity to create some portraits of the bride and groom together, without worrying about the unpredictability of the wedding day.
Mieko looked amazing in her wedding gown and the couple made some beautiful portraits together.
The wedding on May 2nd was a wonderful day too, and I will post some images from that in the next few days.
